25 | On 12/3/20 at 12:45pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson arrived at the center for an announced case management inspection. An application was received to add a classroom to the license, with no change in capacity. LPA met with Jodi Gladstone, director, who advised that there are 36 children and 12 additional staff also present. The center is on the grounds of Congregation Beth El, and operates in classrooms A, B, C and D. The new classroom is classroom 220, which is upstairs in the same building. LPA inspected the new classroom, and bathroom right outside of the room, to conduct a health and safety inspection. The following is a measurement of the classroom:
INDOOR: 379.08 square feet= 11 children
OUTDOOR: no change from previous measurements
A fire clearance dated 10/23/20, with approval of the use of classroom 220 and a capacity of 74, was received from the Berkeley Fire Department.
LPA observed that the lighting, heating and ventilation in the classroom is sufficient for the safety and comfort of children. There is an ample supply of age appropriate furniture, activities and toys available for children and they are in good condition. The floors and surfaces appeared to be free of toxic substances. The center is equipped with an operational centralized smoke detection/sprinkler system, carbon monoxide detector, telephone and first aid supplies. The bathroom right outside of the room will be used when children are in the classroom, and LPA observed 1 toilet and 1 sink that are in sanitary and operational condition.
Classroom 220 will be made part of the license, effective today 12/3/20, and the facility can use it when ready. There are no deficiencies being cited today. This report will remain on file for 3 years. A Notice of Site Visit was provided and an exit interview was conducted with the director. |
