LPA Dyer met with Director Betty McGhee for an Unannounced Required - 1 Year Inspection. Present is the director, 1 teacher, and 11 school-age children. There is 1 classroom with an attached bathroom and small kitchen. Sign-in/sign-out sheets list the time and parents' full signature. Director and Designation of Facility Responsibility are in the process of being updated. Proper posting requirements were met. There is a fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, and a fire pull alarm system. Classroom furniture is in good condition, and free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. Children have tables both inside and outside. Furniture is of appropriate size. There are toys, books, and educational supplies available. Floors are carpeted. There is adequate heating, ventilation, and lighting. Bathroom toilets and sinks are working properly. There were adequate bathroom supplies. Kitchen area (including storage areas for food) was clean. No insects or pests were seen. There were storage containers with lids for solid waste. A sample of food product was examined; there was adequate food for children who did not bring their own and for emergencies. The center supplies snack only. Menus were posted. There is drinking water available at all times through dispensers and paper cups. Director stated that there were no firearms or bodies of water on the premises. Cleaning supplies are inaccessible to children, placed in the kitchen. Director has earthquake supplies in case of an emergency. There is a working phone. The last fire/emergency drill was November 2019. LPA did not observe any child left without visual supervision or unattended during the inspection.

Outside play area (securely fenced) is safe and free of hazards. There were toys and play materials such as a basketball court, net, basketballs and dodgeballs. Children were playing a variety of outdoor games. There is no high climbing equipment.

Children's files, roster, staff records, and mandated reporter training certificates were examined at the last inspection and found to be complete. The director's CPR and mandated training certificates were current. All individuals subject to a criminal record review have obtained clearance or a criminal record exemption. The director was reminded of the Department's Inspection authority, and the need to comply when notified that termination of an employee is necessary.

Discussed with the director: qualifying teachers, substitutes; smoking; on-limit areas; and pest management. Director was encouraged to frequently visit the website at www.ccld.ca.gov for licensing regulations, forms and updates.

No deficiencies cited.

Exit interview conducted. This report must be kept available for public review for three (3) years. Notice of site visit must remain posted for 30 days.
