On November 29, 2023 , Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Simerjit Kaur met with Director Karen Nattrass for an Unannounced Annual Site Inspection. This facility is a parent co-op. Present during the inspection were four (4) staff members, two (2) parents and eighteen (18) preschool age children. LPA toured the entire facility for a health and safety inspection. The facility operates from Monday – Friday 8:45am – 12:30pm.

The facility consists of three (3) conjoined rooms, an art studio and outside play yard. The facility has ample age appropriate materials in the classrooms that were observed to be clean and in good condition. All toxins, medications, cleaning products, and hazardous materials were observed to be in inaccessible areas. The children’s bathroom is clean and in proper working order. There is one (1) separate adult bathroom on site. All children have access to clean drinking water in and outside of the classrooms. There is a working smoke/carbon monoxide detector in the middle room and fully charged fire extinguishers as well. There is a chicken coop outside play yard and one (1) snake that is in a fully enclosed terrarium located in the middle classroom.



The outside play yard is fully fenced, clean, and free from hazards with plenty of shade. There is a vegetable garden and wood working station in the outside play yard. The play structure, swings and boat are sturdy and anchored into the ground. There is a chicken coop, which is fully enclosed. The Director stated that children have access to the chickens only when fully supervised with an adult. All of the sand in the play yard is free from hazards and properly maintained. All proper postings are made visible by the entrance door of the facility. All food provided by the facility is properly stored. The menu is posted. The facility serves snacks. The kitchen and food preparation areas are clean and free from all hazards. Personnel Roster must be properly maintained, and fire/disaster drill must be conducted every six (6) months and documented. LPA reviewed children's file and staff files.

Facility director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1- CCP). LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP.

This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of “medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records.
