25 | On 6/5/19 at 1:40pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson arrived at the center for an unannounced random inspection. LPA met with Veronique Jefferies. There were 47 preschool age children and 8 additional staff also present. The center operates Monday-Friday 7am-6pm.
At 1:53pm, LPA requested and reviewed the files of 2 staff members and 8 children in care. All staff present have a criminal record clearance, have completed the required mandated reporter training and have proof of educational requirements and required immunizations. At least one opening/closing staff member has current CPR/first aid certificates. All children's files are complete, with all of the required forms. The center roster and personnel record were reviewed, and LPA obtained a copy.
At 2:30pm, LPA began an inspection of the center which includes one large room that is separated into 4 classrooms by partitions, a separate classroom, one bathroom and yard. The center has adequate lighting, heating and ventilation for the safety and comfort of staff and children in care. The classroom floors and surfaces are safe, clean and in good repair. The bathroom has 4 toilets and 4 sinks which are in safe and sanitary operating condition. The center is filled with furniture, toys and activities that are age appropriate and in good condition, and there is a sufficient amount of space for children's storage. There are enough sleeping mats for the number of children in care, and they are stored appropriately. There is drinking water available for children both indoors and outdoors. Families bring food and drinks for children. The outdoor play area is fully fenced and free from defects or dangerous conditions. The playground surface and equipment appears to be safe and free from hazards. LPA observed that all areas around and under play structures are cushioned to absorb a fall. LPA did not observe any bodies of water, hazardous items or toxins accessible to children today. Per the director, there are no firearms stored on the premises.
The Hayward Fire Department completed an inspection at the center on 1/15/19. Today, LPA tested the carbon monoxide detector and verified that it is working. The center has fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguishers, working telephone, and first aid supplies.
