On 11/24/20 at 10am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson arrived at the facility for an announced case management inspection. LPA met with Virginia Hunt, the director. There was no one else present. The facility is currently closed due to COVID-19, and will follow the Alameda County School District schedule for reopening. The normal hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7am-6pm. The facility is on the same site as Island High School and a special education program thru the school district, and the director confirmed that all areas used by the programs are kept separate. An application was received to add two additional classrooms, to help the facility comply with recommendations for social distancing. There are no changes to the capacity or other classrooms, bathrooms and outdoor space that were previously licensed. The previously licensed classrooms are 7 and 8, used for the toddler option, and 1, 2, 3 and 12, used for the preschool component. The new classrooms, 6 and 9, will also be used for the preschool component. LPA toured the two new classrooms to conduct a health and safety inspection, and completed the following measurements:
INDOORS: 1,289.91 square feet
All other indoor and outdoor measurements remain the same. A fire clearance, with a capacity of 120 including 96 preschoolers and up to 24 toddlers, was received from the Alameda City Fire Department on 11/12/20.
LPA observed that there is sufficient heating, lighting and ventilation in the classrooms, and the classroom floors and surfaces are clean and free of hazards. The rooms have an ample supply of age appropriate furniture, toys and equipment which appear to be in good condition. LPA did not observe any bodies of water, hazardous items or toxins that would be accessible to children. LPA observed an operating sink in each room and covered waste cans. The rooms are equipped with fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors and centralized smoke detection systems. The facility has a working telephone and first aid supplies.

The two new classrooms will me made part of the license, effective today 11/24/20, and can be used when the facility is ready. There are no deficiencies being cited today. This report will remain on file for 3 years. A Notice of Site inspection was provided to the director, and an exit interview was conducted.
