On 02/06/2020, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Brittany Newton made an unannounced visit for the purpose of conducting a required annual inspection. LPA was met by Director Megan Coleman. Present for the visit was 12 preschool aged children with two teachers. The entire center was toured to conduct a health and safety inspection.

Two sinks and Two toilets are available for children's use. All toilets and hand washing facilities are in safe and sanitary operating conditions. LPA is reminding facility to ensure paper towels are available for children’s use in the restroom. The isolation area for sick children is in the office and the staff toilet. The facility has a waiver in place to share play yards with the private school. Center is reminded that there shall be no commingling of programs at any given time. LPA is reminding facility this waiver is to be posted publicly accessible at all time. Adequate food is available. The facility provides snack and the children bring their own lunches. Drinking water is available inside ranging from pitchers and cups, and jugs, cups, and water bottles are available for outdoor play. Facility has a functioning carbon monoxide detector. Ample age appropriate toys were available for children. Outdoor play area was inspected for hazards. LPA is reminding facility to ensure gardening tools that have sharp edges are placed inaccessible while children are out in the play area to ensure the safety and compliance.

The center has obtained an approved fire safety inspection from the Berkeley Fire Department on 1/28/19. The facility has been conducting fire drills with the last one being 02/05/2020. A fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher is on site. CPR and First Aid is on site and current until 08/24/20.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. Currently, the facility has one child in care that requires epinephrine injections as needed. LPA discussed the need to create a Plan of Operation for providing Incidental Medical Services, and the need to additionally have a specified plan for the child. The

Facility is reminded that ALL assistants, volunteers, frequent visitors, or adults living in the home, that are 18 years of age or older must be fingerprint cleared and associated to this facility prior to being in the presence of children in care or an immediate civil penalty will be assessed from $100 to $3000 per person, per incident. Licensee was reminded of the responsibility as a mandated reporter and the requirement to complete the training every two years.


A child care roster and personnel report was obtained. LPA Newton fully qualified the Director and one teacher while on site.

No deficiencies observed at this visit. A Notice of Site visit was given and facility was reminded that it is required to be posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted, appeal rights provided, and a copy of this report was left with Director Megan Coleman.
