On 9/21/20 at 3pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson conducted a case management inspection for this center. The inspection was conducted thru the FaceTime application due to the COVID-19 pandemic. LPA met with the director, Kevin Meany, and there was no one else present. The center submitted an application to add classrooms 12, 20 and 26, and a multipurpose room, to the school age component. This is a combination center that also has a preschool component. The center is operating on the campus of Burton Valley Elementary School. The hours of operation for the school age component are Monday thru Friday 7:15am-6pm.
A health and safety inspection was conducted by LPA directing Mr. Meany to point and focus the camera on items in each area. Each classroom has a sink with an ample supply of soap, sanitizer and paper towels. Classroom 12 has a bathroom with 1 sink and 1 toilet, and classrooms 20 and 26 have access to nearby bathrooms for boys and girls. The floors and surfaces appeared to be clean and in good condition. There was ample storage for children's belongings and age appropriate furniture and equipment. The rooms are set up to support distance learning while adhering to social distancing recommendations. LPA did not observe any hazardous items, toxins or bodies of water that would be accessible to children. LPA observed that the playgrounds are fenced and there was cushioning underneath the play structures to absorb a fall. Mr. Meany stated that at this time the school age component will have exclusive use of all of the spaces.
A fire clearance, dated 6/3/20, was received from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection Department with an approved overall capacity of 128 children, and the addition of the rooms for the school age component. The classrooms are equipped with fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguishers, centralized system for the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The center has a working telephone and first aid supplies. A Superintendent's Certification, indicating that all of the rooms are approved for use by the center, was received.
All requirements have been met and the center is approved to begin using the additional classrooms and multipurpose room, effective today 9/21/20. This report will remain on file for 3 years. There are no deficiencies being cited. An electronic signature will not be obtained from the licensee, but the report will be mailed to the licensee for signature.
