25 | On 10/24/19 at 9:45am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson arrived at the center for an unannounced random inspection. The center has submitted an application for an increase of capacity, and the addition of a toddler option. LPA met with Haseena Dawud, director/owner. There were 23 infants and 7 additional staff members also present. The center operates Monday thru Friday 7am-6pm. There has been an addition to the center, with a new classroom, children's bathroom, and playground. LPA toured all areas of the center to conduct a health and safety inspection. The measurements are as follows:
INDOORS: 1,777.95 square feet = 51 children
OUTDOORS: 3,215 square feet = 43 children
A fire clearance, dated 9/4/19, for a total capacity of 55 children was received from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection Department.
The center has sufficient heating, ventilation and lighting for the safety and comfort of children and staff. The floors, surfaces, toys, furniture and equipment are age appropriate, in good condition and appear to be free of toxic substances. LPA did not observe any bodies of water, hazardous items or toxins accessible today. Parents provide all of the food for children, but the center has snacks available in case of an emergency and water. LPA observed that all bottles, dishes, and food items are properly labeled, and the director confirmed that bottles are prepared at home and brought to the center. LPA observed that the cribs are arranged to provide a walkway and work space for staff to reach infants. LPA observed a sufficient number of mats, which are stored appropriately, for children who are able to climb out of a crib. LPA observed all of the required documents posted and visible. The center is in compliance with the sign in and out procedure. The playground areas are fully fenced, free from defects or hazards, and the play structure is anchored with sufficient cushioning underneath to absorb a fall. There is sufficient shade in the playground areas. The center is equipped with a centralized smoke/fire detection system, a working carbon monoxide detector, first aid supplies, a working telephone and fully charged fire extinguishers. The center conducts fire and earthquake drills at least once every 6 months, and the last drills were completed in May 2019 and are documented. |
