25 | On 8/26/20 at 11am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Loretta Dyson conducted a case management tele-inspection thru the FaceTime application. A tele-inspection was done due to the COVID-19 pandemic. LPA met with the owners, Adam and Gail Pavlosky. There were no children present. An application was received for an increase of capacity and addition of two classrooms. The center will now operate Monday - Friday 7:30am-5:30pm, in 5 classrooms. The facility is on the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley. A tour of the two new classrooms was completed to conduct a health and safety inspection. The inspection was conducted by LPA directing Mr. Pavlosky to focus the camera on items in each classroom. Mr. Pavlosky measured the two new classrooms while on camera so that LPA could verify the information. The previous measurements of the other classrooms and outdoor space were also used and the combined measurements are as follows:
INDOORS: 2578.76 square feet= 74 children
OUTDOORS: 5141.28 square feet= 69 children
A fire clearance, with a total capacity of 75, was received from the Kensington Fire Protection District on 8/24/20.
The two new classrooms are in a separate building from the rest of the preschool, and the rooms are adjoined. LPA observed that the classroom floors and surfaces were in good condition and clean. LPA observed 1 sink in the first room and a toilet and sink in the second room. LPA observed a sufficient amount of age appropriate toys, equipment and furniture. LPA did not observe any hazardous items, toxins or bodies of water that would be accessible to children. LPA observed a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher, centralized combination smoke/carbon monoxide detection system, pull down fire alarm, and first aid supplies. Mr. Pavlosky confirmed that there have been no changes to the outdoor space. The facility will be licensed for a total capacity of 74, effective today 8/26/20. There are no deficiencies being cited. This report will remain on file for 3 years. An electronic signature will not be obtained from the licensee, but the report will be mailed to the licensee for signature. |
