25 | On 9/26/19 at 9:20am, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Loretta Dyson and Mayla Mendoza arrived at the facility for an announced prelicensing inspection, to complete the initial application for a preschool license. LPAs met with Maria Arid, director, and Teresa Lai, administrator. The center will operate Monday thru Friday 8am-6:30pm. LPAs toured classrooms 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, bathrooms, gymnasium, library, music room, garden and playgrounds to conduct a health and safety inspection. The library, music room, and garden will be used for field trips. The measurements are as follows:
INDOOR: 5,230.5 square feet= 149 children
OUTDOOR: 20,780.01 square feet= 277 children
A fire clearance for a capacity of 144 preschoolers was received from the El Cerrito Fire Department on 9/4/19.
LPAs observed that the classroom floors, surfaces, and equipment are safe, clean and toxic free. The classroom lighting, heating and ventilation is sufficient for the safety and comfort of children and staff. There is an ample supply of age appropriate toys, activities, furniture and storage which are in good condition. LPAs did not observe any bodies of water, hazardous items or toxins that will be accessible to children. There is drinking water available both indoors and outdoors. The toilets and sinks are in sanitary and operational condition. There is a separate bathroom for staff. The playgrounds are fenced and free from defects or dangerous conditions. LPAs observed that the play structure has sufficient cushioning underneath to absorb a fall. The center is equipped with a centralized fire alarm system, working carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and staff will use cell phones for now.
The center plans to have families bring food for children, but will have snacks available for children. There is a snack menu, along with all other required forms that are posted and visible for public review. |
