25 | On 11/1/21 at 12pm, Licensing Program Manager (LPM) Loretta Dyson arrived at the facility for an announced prelicensing inspection. LPM met with the applicant, Leah Rosenthal-Kambic. The center director, Charles Hodes and Jessica Brimmer, Administrator were also present. There were no children present. An application for a school age license was received for this facility. The facility will operate a before and after school program Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7am-6pm. The facility will operate all day when schools are closed. The facility will operate in two classrooms and an activity space. LPM toured all areas, both indoors and outdoors, that will be used by children to conduct a health and safety inspection, and completed the following measurements:
INDOORS: 1342.18 square feet= 38 children
OUTDOORS: 2267.01 square feet= 30 children
A fire clearance, with a total capacity of 38 children, was received from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection Department on 10/25/21.
LPM observed that all rooms have sufficient heating, lighting and ventilation and the floors and surfaces are clean and free of hazards. LPM observed an ample supply of age appropriate furniture, equipment, toys and activities. There are 2 toilets and 2 sinks available for children, and LPM confirmed that they are in working order and sanitary. There is a separate bathroom for staff upstairs in the office space, and this bathroom and a section of the activity space will be used for the isolation of sick children. The facility will provide snacks, and children will bring lunch from home. There are water dispensers indoors and children will have individual water bottles and access to disposable cups, so water is available both indoors and outdoors. The facility will utilize an electronic sign in/out system, but for now is using a paper form until the new system is set up. The owner advised that they have a plan to meet the requirements if the system is unavailable.
The facility is equipped with 2A10BC fire extinguishers, a centralized smoke and carbon monoxide detection system, a pull down fire alarm, working telephone, and first aid supplies. LPM did not observe any hazardous items, toxins, bodies of water or medication that would be accessible to children today. |
