On 10/01/2019, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Candis Rodriguez and Caroline Harris conducted a case management inspection regarding a child who tested positive for Whooping Cough (Pertussis). (Notification to Community Care Licensing was made on 09/17/2019.) LPAs met with Director Erin Ortiz and explained the reason of the inspection. A tour of the center was conducted, and a census was taken. LPAs observed a total of 32 children present in the preschool.
On 09/17/2019, at approximately 1:40PM, the facility was notified in person by parent that their child tested positive for Whooping Cough (Pertussis). The parent is also a staff member, and both the parent/staff member and child left the facility immediately, both unable to return until cleared by physician. Director stated she posted an exposure letter with information about signs and symptoms on the front door and window where all parents enter the facility. Director stated she personally spoke to parents in the preschool to advise them of the exposure to Whooping Cough (Pertussis). Director stated along with their usual weekly deep cleaning, extra steps were taken to sanitize all surfaces including all individual toys. Director stated multiple parents with vulnerable children had their children tested as a precaution and tests were all negative. As of today, there have been no additional cases of Whooping Cough (Pertussis) reported. The child was cleared by the Fresno County DPH to return to school on 09/23/2019. The parent/staff member did not test positive and was cleared to return to the facility to work on 09/22/2019.
Upon review of facility records, LPAs observed both the parent/staff member and child are immunized against Whooping Cough (Pertussis), as required.
For more information on Whooping Cough (Pertussis), please visit https://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/index.html.

BASED UPON INFORMATION THAT WAS OBTAINED FROM DIRECTOR AND FACILITY RECORDS, IT IS DETERMINED THAT THERE WERE NO VIOLATIONS OF COMMUNITY CARE LICENSING REGULATIONS. NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME.
Site Visit Notice posted on the parent board. Exit interview was conducted.
