25 | On 01/07/2025, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Aurelio Mendoza conducted a Case Management - Licensee Initiated inspection to evaluate the addition of a metal pergola with canopy in the daycare’s outdoor playground area. LPA met with Head of School, Dr. Megan McMills, and toured the facility, focusing on the newly installed structure.
The 10ft x 12ft metal pergola with canopy, located inside the gated playground area, provides additional shade over the children’s sandbox. Per Dr. McMills, the installation was completed during the winter break (December 16, 2024 to January 3, 2025) while children were not in care. The Child Care Licensing Division was notified of the pergola’s readiness on 01/06/2025.
The outdoor area for children aged 4-5 includes a sandbox, a fenced playground structure, an inoperable water fountain, two picnic tables, three chairs, and shaded areas from nearby palm trees and the new pergola.
LPA observed that playground equipment, including slides, is adequately cushioned with rubber mulch to absorb falls. Dr. McMills confirmed responsibility for ensuring child safety, equipment maintenance, and proper use in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
The metal pergola with canopy covering the sandbox is approved for use effective immediately. No deficiencies were cited per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 1, of the California Code of Regulations.
A copy of the Appeal Rights was provided to Dr. Megan McMills, and a Notice of Site Visit must remain posted for 30 days.
