25 | On 03/27/2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Candis Rodriguez conducted an unannounced case management inspection at facility regarding an incident reported by facility on 02/24/2023. LPA met with Director Erin Wilcox, explained purpose of inspection, took a census, and toured the facility.
On 02/23/2023, Child #1 reported to parents that Teacher #1 grabbed Child #1's arm and screamed at Child to go to the restroom. Facility Director conducted an investigation and documented speaking with parents and staff, as well as reported incident to Licensing. Director provided documentation of parent concerns, investigation, and follow up and remediation reports. There were no witnesses identified to the alleged incident.
LPA interviewed Director and Teacher #1. LPA reviewed facility documentation and Child #1's file. It was determined through interview and record review that facility responded to the situation appropriately, and has since conducted training during a staff meeting to address how staff should speak and respond to children, including being aware of the loudness or tone of their voice.
Child #1 is no longer in Teacher #1's classroom at any point during the day, as arranged by Director as a remediation effort. Teacher #1 expressed she would never harm a child, and was unaware that her voice can be too loud for some children, but now that she is aware she is working on it. Teacher #1 stated she apologized to parents and wants them to know she did not intend to hurt Child's feelings or make Child feel uncomfortable. Teacher #1 stated she is more cognizant of her voice which is naturally loud and direct, and how that tone of voice may affect children differently. Teacher #1 stated she does not forcefully grab/pull any child's hand or arm.
Child #1 is still attending facility, and parents signed acknowledgment that Director listened to concerns and parents are satisfied with the follow up plan.
Per California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 1, no deficiency cited. An exit interview was conducted with Director Erin Wilcox. A Notice of Site Visit Form was posted on the parent's board and must remain posted for 30 days. |
