25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Nolan Tcheng conducted an unannounced random 4-5 yr inspection. Upon arrival, LPA met with Director Monica Duran. At 9:20am, LPA was led on a tour of the facility. This is a Preschool program which consists of 9 classrooms, (4 classrooms not in use during Summer session). Per licensee, there are currently 100 enrolled in the program. Hours of operation for this facility are 7:30am-6pm, Monday-Friday. The facility is located on the campus of 1st Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena.
Licensing staff observed all required forms/publications to be posted next to the office. Snack menus were reviewed to ensure that they are being posted one week in advance where it is visible by the child's authorized representative. Menus for the past 30 days are available upon request.
PHYSICAL PLANT: At 9:20am, LPA entered and inspected Room 123: 16 children with 3 staff members, Room 126: 12 children with 2 staff members, Room 128: 14 children with 2 staff members, Room 129: 19 children with 2 staff members, and Room 229: 12 children with 2 staff members. Rooms 122, 125, 127, and 227 are not currently being used. Facility has two classrooms on the second floor of the building: Rooms 227 and 229. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children in storage rooms. Cabinets in the classrooms have locks and safety locks as well in case there is a need to store a spray bottle. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. All floors are clean and safe. In each classroom, LPA observed stacked cots or mats that were stored for nap time. At 9:40am, a fire extinguisher was observed. The valve on the required 2A 10BC fire extinguisher indicates fully charged and was serviced on 11/09/2021, as indicated on service tag. Per State Fire Marshall standards, fire extinguishers shall be serviced annually. Each classroom has its own restroom for use. All toilets, hand washing, and bathing facilities are safe, sanitary and are operating properly. All storage containers for solid waste, including moveable bins shall have tight-fitting covers that are kept on, and in good repair. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids.
