On 10/19/2020, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Ariel Cazares met with Vice President Christina Moore and Director Karen Taylor of the licensed facility via Zoom.

The purpose of the visit was to provide technical assistance to the facility that is currently operating under a waiver to allow an increase to their preschool program in order to accommodate school-age children. This waiver will be used temporarily to increase capacity from 60 to 102 and utilize areas not included in the license, due to the spread of COVID-19 in Southern/Northern California.

At 1:30pm, LPA was guided on a tour of the facility. The child care operates Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm and the school-age children will range from K to 6th grade. If the facility should need to increase capacity beyond 102 children, as approved on the waiver, or any changes to the conditions of the waiver occur, Maryvale Early Education Center, shall notify the Monterey Park Child Care Regional Office.

The temporary waiver also consists of 3 additional rooms for the school-age children. Check-in will take place at building for the school-age component. If child/ren become ill during the course of the day, they will be placed in the isolation area located in the office and a cot or mat will be available for rest. The school-age component has separate restrooms that allow for privacy and outdoor space from the preschool areas. There was 1 school-age child present during the inspection.

LPA toured the preschool areas as well. This component consists of 4 rooms: 3 are in use at time and there were 21 preschool children present.

The ratio kept for the school-age component is 1:12. The equipment used by school-age children is age appropriate. School-age children do have the option to rest and a mat is available. There are 2 restrooms available for school-age which allow for privacy. Drinking water is available via water jug and disposable cups. Water is also taken outside when children are outdoors.

LPA was guided through the outdoor space designated for school-age children. Children practice social distancing outdoors and per director the play equipment is sanitized before and after use daily.
To further ensure health and safety of the children in care, Community Care Licensing will provide on-going Technical Assistance (TA) to Maryvale Early Education Center. LPA advised director to stay updated with the Provider Information Notices (PINs) on the department website www.ccld.ca.gov as well as www.covid19.ca.gov for COVID-19 related information.

An exit interview was conducted with Director Karen Taylor. A copy of this report will be sent via email with an attached read receipt as proof of receipt. LPA request report be signed and a copy returned to the Regional Office.
