LPA observed bathroom available in RM 2 that is shared by program that has two toilets and one sink, with extra sinks available for use in each classroom. LPA observed diaper changing table in RM 1 that is on wheels and can be moved within arm's reach of sink when in use.
Snack/lunch menus were reviewed and observed posted at time of inspection. All meals and snacks are provided by the Long Beach Unified School District. Per Facility Representative, Full Day programs are provided breakfast, lunch, and snack; AM Program provided breakfast and PM Program provided lunch which is dropped off from school cafeteria. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids.
A first aid kit is kept in each classroom and was inventoried for supplies. At 12:12 PM, a carbon monoxide detector was tested and observed operable in RM 3. LPA observed smoke detectors observed present in the facility and fire extinguishers have been serviced on 09/01/2022. LPA observed disaster drill log available, last drill conducted on 01/12/2023. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children. S1 states that there are no poisons stored at the facility and no children currently enrolled require medications. Per ELCM, isolation for sick children is in school's Nurse's Office.
Beginning at 11:47 AM, outdoor equipment was inspected for safety, cushioning material, good repair and age-appropriateness. LPA observed age appropriate multi-level play structure with slides that has cushioning material to absorb fall that is all well maintained. LPA observed bicycles, plastic play treehouse, plastic crawl tubes and other toys available for children to use outside that is well maintained. Required shade and fencing were inspected. LPA observed benches with shading available for children. LPA advised that the children need to be within the direct care and supervision, including visual supervision of the teacher(s) at all times. The children have access to a water cooler with paper cups during outside play. Play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water; no bodies of water or hazards observed at time of inspection.
Teacher-child ratios were observed and staff names recorded. Care and supervision was evaluated to determine if the basic needs of children are met and appropriate. Sign-in and out sheets and procedures were reviewed. LPA observed all children present signed in at time of inspection and observed AM program sign in/out sheet to have all signatures signed in and out. Personal Rights of children were observed by LPA.
