25 | On 02/03/2020 at 11:15am, Licensing Program Analysts (LPA’s), Lourdes Castellanos and Ericka Hill conducted an Unannounced Required Annual Inspection Visit. LPA's met with the Assistant Director/Lead Teacher, Monique Mason and was guided on a tour of the facility. Assistant Director informed the LPA's that the Director is in a Head Start meeting during todays inspection. LPA's observed 26 children being supervised by 4 teachers. LPA's also observed 1 aide and a cook present in the facility at the time of the visit. The facility has 3 classrooms; Busy Bee (2 year olds), Flamingo (3-5 year olds), and Little Stars (4-5 year olds). The facility is licensed to care for the capacity of 52 children.
Care and Supervision. LPA's observed all 26 children combined during their lunch, bathroom, and nap times. LPA's observed 4 teachers and 1 aide supervising the children during these times. The classrooms were observed to have age-appropriate furniture, toys, bedding, and equipment accessible to the children. The classrooms were also observed to be clean, safe, and free of any Health or Safety Hazards. Children’s meals are cooked on site by facility cook and children bring their water bottles from home or provided uncontaminated water from the facility. The food menu was reviewed by LPA’s. Working telephones are available as well as adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation in each of the classrooms. Children's belongings are kept in cubbies at the entrance of the facility and in cabinets in the classrooms. Classrooms have up-to-date fire extinguishers and inventory of first-aid kits were met in all classrooms. All classrooms had locked cabinets making toxins and hazards inaccessible for children.
Outdoor Play area. Equipment and toys were inspected for health, safety, good repair, and age appropriateness. Facility has age-appropriate climbing structures, bikes, play house structure, and other toys available. All equipment was anchored securely, cushioned to absorb falls, and there is a sufficient amount of shade available for children. The playground is enclosed by brick walls keeping the children safe while playing. The children are escorted from the classrooms to the yard with teacher supervision. The outdoor area was observed to be free of debris and loose and /or sharp items. LPA's observed a damaged and unlocked storage area located along the back of the main facility building storing extra toys. |
