On September 17, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) K. Dunlap and A. Mooberry conducted an unannounced annual inspection to the above facility. LPA arrived at the facility at 12:00 PM and met with co-licensees Vernon Reed and Sharon Cannick-Reed. Licensee, Sharon Cannick-Reed, guided analyst on a tour of the facility. The Licensee stated that there are 12 children that are currently enrolled, and three children present. All adults present in the home have obtained a criminal record clearance or exemption prior to working, residing or volunteering in the licensed childcare home.

This is a one story home which consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen area, dining room, living room, a patio area converted into a living space, laundry room, garage, front yard and backyard (fenced). The off limit areas include two bedrooms, one bathroom, garage and front yard. The main care area is located in the converted patio area.
The Licensee does have license, facility sketch, PUB 394, LIC 9148, LIC 610A, and LIC 9040. The Licensee has disaster drill log with log of drills last dated 8/2/24.

LPA Dunlap observed a a 2A-10BC fire extinguish with date of 7/1/24.
LPA Dunlap observed an operable smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector.

LPA Dunlap observed a second door was observed to lead from restroom designated for children to the off limits laundry room. LPA observed detergents and cleaning products in the off limits laundry area. A sliding door was observed to lead from the off limits laundry area to the accessible kitchen. LPA observed additional cleaning products to be locked beneath the kitchen sink. A knife set was also observed to be locked in a cabinet next to the kitchen sink. A door way was observed to lead from the kitchen area back to the dining room/living room area. LPA Dunlap observed age appropriate toys and materials, a television, and a couch. A sliding glass door was observed to separate the main care area to the accessible living room/dining area.

At 12:30pm, LPA Dunlap observed 1 Baby Glider in the main care area and 2 Baby Gliders in the living. LPA Dunlap informed the Licensee that this was against regulation. The Licensee immediately removed the items and placed them on the side of the house. The Licensee stated that they would have parents pick up when they picked up children in the evening.

LPA observed the back yard for outdoor play time. The outdoor play area was observed to have perimeter fencing. The outdoor yard has toys and other materials for children to play with. LPA did not observe any objects that can pose a danger to children in care. No bodies of water were observed in the back yard play area.

The Licensee was aware of the Safe Sleep, however was not aware of logging when infant is sleeping. LPA Dunlap gave the Licensee a non department log to use going forward if the Licensee chooses to use that form or their own.

The Licensee has a cell phone that they use.



The Licensee stated they do not have any children that they administer medication to at this time. If children were to have medications that need to be administered there is a lockbox stored in high up kitchen cabinet.

The Licensee states that when children are in sick they are placed in the living room.

The Licensee stated there are no firearms in the home.

The Licensee stated that there are no smokers in the home.

The Licensee stated that they do provide transportation for children, and drop off/pick up school age children.

The Licensee stated they do not have any children with allergies. If children have allergies they are placed on list on fridge in kitchen.

The Licensee stated that they do have first aid kit.

Criminal Record Clearance - Family Child Care Homes Licensee Vernon Reed was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

Safe Sleep

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with Licensee Vernon Reed and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed Licensee Sharon Reed of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) –

This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. MyChildCarePlan.org – Centers and Family Child Care Homes Licensee Vernon Reed was informed of the

MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California.

Megan’s Law - Family Child Care Homes During the exit interview, the Licensee Vernon Reed, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.

Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee Vernon Reed.

There were no deficiencies cited during time of inspection.
