Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Doris Whitmore conducted an unannounced annual random inspection to ensure the health and safety of the Child Care Home according to Department Regulations & Safety Codes. All adults are present and residing in the home are fingerprint cleared and associated to the facility LPA met with and toured the inside and outside of the home with licensee, Shaunte Taylor. At time of visit there were 5 children in care with an assistant, Silvia Figueroa during the visit. The licensee utilizes the living room for activity time and a backhouse for classroom time. The children nap in the main house and they eat either in the main house or outdoors in the backyard. The licensee has one medium sized dog which interacts with the children. There is also a coop with chickens. Licensee states there are no firearms or weapons in the home. The bathroom for children in care is located inside the bedroom off the dining room. In this bathroom, LPA did not observe any medications, toxins or items that would pose a risk to children in care.
There is a fully charged fire extinguisher located in the dining room area and operable smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, first aid kit and earthquake supplies were observed. All unused electrical outlets are covered with safety covers. The home has central heating. First Aid/CPR requirements are current (exp) 03/24/22). LPA checked the mandated reporter certificates all were current. LPA was also able to observer the Preventative Health and Safety Certificate.
Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated. All met Department standards. Chemicals, detergents, cleaning compounds are kept on the back porch and items are inaccessible to children. Medications and sharp pointed objects are inaccessible to children. Children's records were reviewed and found to be complete.LPA checked three staff files for documentation.
Licensee has age-appropriate outdoor play toys. There is a streaming pond in the backyard that has rocks in place so there is no standing water. Play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility of bodies of water. At time of visit there was no standing bodies of water. A roster was observed.

LPA reminded licensee about criminal records/child abuse index clearances, child abuse reporting requirements, all licensing required forms, inspection authority, capacity limitations, incident/medication documentation, licensee appeal/procedure rights & agency's consultative role.
Licensee was made aware of The Child Care Advocate Program (CCAP) that is administered from within the Community Care Licensing Division. CCAP participates in many community activities and special projects in order to disseminate information on the State’s licensing role, provide information to the public and parents on child care licensing, and provide many other helpful resources to the licensees and the public. Mandated Reporter: Beginning on January 1, 2018, AB 1207, requires all licensed providers, applicants, directors and employees to complete training as specified on their mandated reporter duties and to renew their training every two years. Incidental Medical Services Include: Blood-Glucose Monitoring for Diabetic Children, Administering Inhaled Medication, Administering EpiPen Jr. and EpiPen or other Epinephrine Auto-Injectors, Glucagon Administration, Gastrostomy Tube Care (G-tube care), Insulin Injections Administration, Anti-Seizure Administration, and Emptying an Ileostomy Bag.
