On March 01, 2023 at 8:30 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Andrew Alemoh arrived at Kezios Family Day Care for the purpose of conducting an unannounced required 1 Year inspection. LPA met with Licensee, Fay Kezios, who guided analyst on a tour of the home. This is single story family home with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms with a living room, dining room, kitchen, family room, laundry area and attached converted garage. There is no pool, spa or other bodies of water on the premises.

Present during inspection were Licensee, Licensee's spouse and 2 day care children. Days/hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The home has no pets on the premises.

Main care is provided in the family room, master bedroom #1 and bathroom #1 which is located in the hallway to the left. Children have access to the kitchen, backyard and converted garage. Off limit areas includes the living room, bathroom #2, bedroom #2 and #3. LPA observed a baby gate making the living room inaccessible to children. The backyard is completely fenced, with grass area for active play and has age appropriate toys. LPA observed the converted garage to be safe and secured for children to play with age appropriate toys. There are 3 large cabinets with safety latches on them. Cabinet #1 on the left contains diapers and changing materials. #2 is the food pantry. #3 is a storage area for extra toys and or cleaning supplies.

The home was inspected inside and out for safety, comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating and ventilation. Poisons, detergents/cleaning compounds (stored underneath the kitchen sink with a safety latch, as well as the top cabinet in the laundry room with a safety latch). Medicines and hazardous items that can pose a danger to children were inaccessible. Medications are stored in the top kitchen cabinet with a safety latch. Kitchen knives are stored in a plastic bin in the upper kitchen cabinet to the left of the sink.

Per Licensee, there are no weapons or firearms on the premise. LPA did not observe any in the home. There are age appropriate toys. Age appropriate napping equipment which includes mats, and cribs. The required Fire Extinguisher (3A40BC). Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector are in working condition. The home has a fireplace which is covered with screen and gate which is inaccessible to children.

There is a designated area for ill children as necessary in the family room. The facility sketch is complete and current, there is working telephone (cell).

Fire/Disaster drills are maintained current. Last fire disaster drill was completed on 02/08/2023.

Bathroom: LPA observed the toilet and faucet are clean and operable. There are safety latches on all the cabinets underneath the sink. LPA did not observe shampoos or shower gels in the bathroom.

Kitchen: Sharp utensils, open bottles or alcohol are inaccessible. The home has a clean and fully stocked refrigerator/freezer. Cleaning supplies are underneath the kitchen sink with a safety latch and is locked during business hours. LPA observed cleaning solutions in the laundry room in the top cabinet with a safety latch. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and are provided. Licensee stated she currently does not have a food program. Naps are provided on cots, and cribs in the family room and master bedroom.

Outdoor: The front yard is off limits. The backyard is completely fenced in with a brick wall. There is a black iron fence on the left side of the backyard making the shed inaccessible to children. LPA observed age appropriate toys, well secured and safe for children. LPA observed the BBQ pit to be fully covered. AC unit is also inaccessible to children.

There are no bodies of water in the premises.

Advisory/Other: First Aid kit was observed with supplies readily available located in the kitchen. CPR/First Aid expires 06/30/23. Mandated Reporter expires on 01/26/23. LPA reminded licensee; mandated reporter training must be completed every 2 years.

Documents Provided and or Discussed: Fire Drill Log, Postings, Employee's and Children's records, Safe Sleep PIN 20-24-CCP and Individual Sleeping Plan (LIC9227). Licensee currently does have child care insurance.

Licensee Fay was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee Fay and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep web page at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

An exit interview was conducted, a copy of this report was reviewed and provided to licensee along with the appeal rights.
