25 | On 03/22/2022, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Lisa Clayton, conducted an unannounced visit to the facility to follow up on an Unusual Incident reported to the department on 12/03/2021. LPA Clayton met with Vashawnne Williams, teacher designee (Site Director was gone for the day). LPA observed 5 teachers and 17 children in care.
Description of the incident: On 11/22/2021, C1 was seen at the doctors and diagnosed with Scabies. C1 returned to school on 12/01/21 with a release from her doctor. On 12/02/21, C2 and C3 began complaining of itchiness. C2 and C3 were isolated from the other children until they were picked up by their parents. At approximately 3:29pm that same day, the father of C3 informed the teacher that C3 was diagnosed with Scabies on 11/24/21 and provided a release to return to school on 12/04/21. The Health/Nutrition nurse called the md on the release on 12/02/21 who stated that the child could not return to school until he/she is examined and cleared by a doctor. Teacher Lela and Site Director Brown observed rashes on C2 and C3. Monique Anderson, manager, contacted the LADPH to report the scabies outbreak (reference # OB20212050.) Per the LADPH classroom and toys were sanitized.
C2 was seen by a MD and diagnosed with eczema. All 3 of the children mentioned in the report have returned to school, and there have been no other reported incidents of scabies.
The LADPH gave the following guidelines:
· Continue to conduct daily health checks to monitor and observe for other children with possible signs and symptoms
· Notify all parents by posting a letter of exposure
· Sanitize and disinfect classroom and order a deep cleaning of the exposure classroom
· Follow incubation period outlined in the CA Department of Health Communicable Disease list along with Medical Provider recommendations.
Based on the information provided this incident does not appear to have violated any Title 22 Regulations. Director designee , was encouraged to continue to report unusual incidents that occur in the facility in a timely manner. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Vashawnne Williams Director Designee. |
