On 5/29/2020 LPA Jillinda Chandler and Claudia Escobedo conducted a technical assistance visit for Building Blocks Christian Academy. LPAs met with Kaylen Orr and two staff members, who guided LPA's on a tour of the areas where the center plans to extend child care due to Covid -19. The day care center is located on the church premises, the purposed areas are located in the sanctuary and the annex room of the church,

The center is requesting a waiver to comply with the 1 staff, to 10 children ratio social and physical distancing ordinance. The facility is not requesting to increase their capacity unless there is a need in the community. The current census for the center is 35. The center plans to provide supervision using current staff and assistants. Children will be supervised by the same staff member, remain with the same group and in the same classroom on a daily basis. Day care hours will be 7:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Monday - Friday meals will be provided by parents during the pandemic crisis, water was readily available. The center has developed an alternate plan for signing the children in and out (see last pages of report) . Children showing signs of fever or cough shall not be allowed to remain in care, the directors office and staff rest room shall be designated for isolation.

LPAs observed the sanctuary where all the pews where removed to create space for classroom activities. If enrollment increases the room could be divided to safely separate 2 groups of 10 children, if there is the need to increase the capacity. There were 2 adult restrooms with, 2 sinks in addition to the pre-existing rest rooms in the main day care building, per director step stools will be provided to assist children when using the adult sized toilets and sinks. LPA's observed fire extinguishers located in various areas of the sanctuary. As a safety precaution LPA Chandler advised director Orr to device a plan to make the "push bar" doors inaccessible to children, there were two such doors that lead to the main highway.

The second area to be used for child care was located in the in the annex room, in the same building. The children will use the same rest room located in the sanctuary, this room will be used to conduct classroom activities for a group of ten children and 1 teacher. The classroom exit door lead to the out door activity and parking lot area of the school. Per director the parking lot gate is closed during child care hours, parents and delivery vendors use the parking lot that extends beyond the gate.

Per director Orr the church pastor and the administrator will be on site periodically. The pastor and administrator have criminal background clearances, but do not interact with day care children.

Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
Due to the daily screening process, strict drop-off times will be enforced.
Adults must wear face coverings when dropping off and picking up their children.
Keypad on gate will be covered with a plastic covering that will be changed daily. It is the responsibility of the adult using the keypad to sanitize their hands before and after use of the keypad. (Just like you would at the grocery store check-out.) Pending product availability, a hand sanitizer dispenser will be installed at the key pad.
Once parked, families will be directed to use gate entrance on the south side to access the school building. From the south entrance you can make your way to the main door of the classroom. Families waiting to enter the building will need to wait in a socially distanced line, which will be marked on the ground in spaces 6 feet apart. To minimize contact, please limit number of family members who come for pick up and drop off. CDC COVID-19 guidelines recommend that families designate one parent to handle all pick-ups and drop-offs whenever possible.

A staff member will be at the door to conduct the daily screening procedure outlined above. If the child has passed the daily screening, he or she will be required to wash their hands at the sink by the door before going into the classroom. The staff member posted will have the sign in/out available for parents. Only after all the above has been completed will the child be admitted into the classroom. Staff will escort children to their appropriate classroom. (Staff can communicate via walkie talkie during this time and will ensure that proper ratios are maintained in the classroom while the assistant gathers arriving children.) Parents should say goodbye to their child at the door and a staff member will escort your child into the classroom. They should exit to their vehicle through the north gate (by the sink).
Parents will only be granted access to the classroom if it is absolutely necessary. If it is necessary for the parent to enter the classroom, they will need to have their temperature taken and wash their hands before entering.
For picking up your child, parents should access the building following the procedures listed above. You may knock on the classroom door to alert us of your arrival. A staff member will assist your child in gathering their belongings and will escort them out the door to you for signing out in the same manner that you signed in.
