25 | On 5/29/2020 LPA Jillinda Chandler and Claudia Escobedo conducted a technical assistance visit for Building Blocks Christian Academy. LPAs met with Kaylen Orr and two staff members, who guided LPA's on a tour of the areas where the center plans to extend child care due to Covid -19. The day care center is located on the church premises, the purposed areas are located in the sanctuary and the annex room of the church,
The center is requesting a waiver to comply with the 1 staff, to 10 children ratio social and physical distancing ordinance. The facility is not requesting to increase their capacity unless there is a need in the community. The current census for the center is 35. The center plans to provide supervision using current staff and assistants. Children will be supervised by the same staff member, remain with the same group and in the same classroom on a daily basis. Day care hours will be 7:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Monday - Friday meals will be provided by parents during the pandemic crisis, water was readily available. The center has developed an alternate plan for signing the children in and out (see last pages of report) . Children showing signs of fever or cough shall not be allowed to remain in care, the directors office and staff rest room shall be designated for isolation.
LPAs observed the sanctuary where all the pews where removed to create space for classroom activities. If enrollment increases the room could be divided to safely separate 2 groups of 10 children, if there is the need to increase the capacity. There were 2 adult restrooms with, 2 sinks in addition to the pre-existing rest rooms in the main day care building, per director step stools will be provided to assist children when using the adult sized toilets and sinks. LPA's observed fire extinguishers located in various areas of the sanctuary. As a safety precaution LPA Chandler advised director Orr to device a plan to make the "push bar" doors inaccessible to children, there were two such doors that lead to the main highway. |
