LPA met with (School Director Lauren Kendera and assistant director #1) and toured the facility indoors and outdoors. Days and hours of operation are Monday-Friday 6:30AM to 6:00pm. From 6:30am to 10am children arrive at day-care for morning session. From 10am to 11:30am day-care children go to Pico Canyon Elementary for class. Director and assistant #1 pick up kids from elementary school and bring kids back to day care. Day care is using 4 classrooms. Classroom #1 is for kindergartens as well as a pickup/drop off for all day-care children . Classroom #2 is for 1st and 2nd graders. Classroom #3 is for 5th and 6th graders. Classroom #4 is 3rd and 4th graders. All classrooms contained a 3A40BC fire extinguisher as well as a first aid medication kit. There is no swimming pool or other bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms or ammunition allowed or stored on the premises. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, and other hazardous items are made inaccessible to children (stored in cabinets above kitchen sinks in all 4 rooms). LPA observed the children medications were stored correctly. (Locked in a cabinet in director office) . Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. All toilets and hand washing facilities are in safe and sanitary operating condition. Floors in the facility are clean and safe. Playground equipment is in safe condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards.

No kitchen on site, (LPA noticed a microwave and toaster oven in the director office) kids bring their own food and snack from home. Hot lunch is provided during school holiday breaks if necessary. Solid waste storage containers have tight-fitting covers and are in good repair. Drinking water is available both indoors and outdoors. The facility is free of flies, insects and rodents. Facility has one or more functioning carbon monoxide detectors that meet statutory requirements.

Last fire drill was conducted on 10/21/22 . Mandated Reporter for Director and assistant director expired back in 2022 . LPA advised both directors to complete and update mandated reporter.

Facility representative was reminded, Prior to working or volunteering in a licensed childcare facility, all individuals subject to a criminal record review have received a criminal record clearance, transfer or exemption. Upon notification from the Department, the licensee will comply and act immediately to terminate the employment of, remove from the facility or bar from entering the facility for any person it is deemed necessary while the Department considers granting or denying an exemption. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

Capacity and limitations as specified on the license are being maintained. At least one person trained in CPR and Pediatric First Aid is present when children are at the facility.

All children are under supervision, including visual supervision, of a teacher at all times. Facility maintains a ratio of one teacher supervising no more than 14 children in care. Per Director Lauren children with Incidental Medical Services are taken to the elementary school nurse, and or Direcot Lauren. (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.
