On 5/4//2023 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jillinda Chandler made an unannounced visit to Sunshine Academy Preschool for the purpose of conducting a 1 Year Required Annual inspection. Upon arrival LPA met with Assistant director Jasmin Smith. There were 7 infants being supervised by two qualified teachers; Ms. Myra Marquez and Ms. Maria Acala. A tour of the facility was provided. Shortly director Tanesha Thompas joined the tour .

The following was observed:
The floor in the classroom was observed to be in good condition.
Age appropriate toys, furniture and equipment were observed to be in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts.
LPA observed four standard size cribs, mattresses were covered with tight fitting sheets and there were no objects in the cribs or hanging over them.
Children have individual cubbies to store their personal belongings and diapering supplies
Trash cans in the classroom had tight fitting lids to dispose of soiled diapers
Infants foods and formulas were stored and properly labeled. LPA observed a refrigerator for storing of formulas and other food capable of spoiling, no expired food were observed.
The rooms temperature was set at a comfortable temperature
Required posting were observed in a prominent area for review. Parents are allowed to enter into the front area of the school.
LPA observed a first aide kit with the required essentials: scissors, tweezers, ointments, bandages and a thermometer.
Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were in locked cabinets, inaccessible to children.

The out door area was inspected for compliance and safety, Licensee was advised to devise a plan to make water hose and faucet inaccessible to children in care.

Staff and children files were reviewed, a type " B" citation was issued for missing document in a child's file. Staff files were complete and up to date.

To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey will be sent to the email address provided. Please complete the survey and share your inspection experience. Licensee [or facility representative] was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
