On 8/20/2021 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Clayton made an unannounced visit to the Canterbury Family Child Care home for the purpose of conducting a Required-1-year Annual visit. Upon arrival LPA was greeted by Genevieve Canterbury, Licensee. Also present during the inspection was teacher Jessica Garcia, volunteer Isabelle LaJoie Smith, (both fingerprint cleared and associated with license), and 9 children in care. Capacity as specified on the license is being maintained.

LPA observed children playing, having lunch, and being taken care of and supervised appropriately by licensee and staff.

LPA toured the home inside and outside for a Health and Safety inspection. Current facility sketch was reviewed, the home is a one story, 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom home, with a fenced backyard, gated lunch area and detached garage. Licensee confirmed that bedroom 1 and 2 are off limits and inaccessible to children in care by the use of locked doors, child gates and supervision. The living room/childcare room, bedroom 2 (nap and isolation area), bathroom and kitchen are on limits. There is no swimming pool or other bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms or ammunition on the premises. Detergents, cleaning compounds, medication and other hazardous items are made inaccessible.



LPA Clayton reviewed the Facility Roster and 3 children’s files and observed the files were complete with emergency information as required. LPA reviewed the staff file and found them to up to date. Licensee’s and staffs Mandated Reporter Training Certificates are up to date and due for renewal in 2022. Licensee’s pediatric CPR/First Aid expires 06/2023. Emergency/Disaster Drill log is posted and being done every 6 months. The last drill was done July 7, 2021.

There are ample age appropriate toys that are safe, clean and in good repair. The equipment in the backyard is in good condition and outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and free of any hazards. There is a fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguisher, and a pull down Fire Alarm. Adequate heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. The home has working telephone service and LPA confirmed the phone number is 310- 880-7364. The licensee is reminded any structural changes to the home or additions to the childcare facility must be reported to Community Care Licensing.

California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, and within 7 days of the occurrence by fax, mail, or electronic mail.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Homes Section 102417. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. LPA and Licensee discussed the Community Care Licensing website www.ccld.ca.gov which will provide access to Provider Information Notices (PINs), Quarterly Updates, COVID-19 Information and Resources, Mandated Reporter Training, Safe Sleep in Child Care, Lead Poisoning Facts, Forms and Regulations. For licensing updates email childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov and ask to be added to the email list.



Per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3, of the California Code of Regulations, no deficiencies are cited.

An Exit interview was conducted. This report shall be made available to the public upon request. LIC 9213 Notice of Site Visit is provided and required to be posted for 30 days.
