25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Shandra Powell, Licensing Program Manager (LPM) Mary Ruiz, and Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) Martha Vasquez conducted second pre licensing inspection to the facility to evaluate and take measurements of the outdoor park area named "The Lawn" the facility is requesting to use as an alternate outdoor play area. Upon arrival, Department representatives met with Center Director Katherine J. Mayer, Licensee Melanie Wolff and Assistant Director Brad Mech. Ms. Wolff departed from the inspection shortly after Department Representatives arrived.
The facility is a "Drop In Center" located at the "Runway Playa Vista" shopping center. The facility is located on the furthest north east corner of the shopping center on Runway Road between Village Drive and Town Center Drive. LPA Powell and AGPA Vasquez were led on a tour by Center Director Katherine Mayer of the outdoor route the children will take to the alternate outdoor play area. Department Representatives walked on Runway Road west towards "Urban Plates" near the mall roundabout. There is two suites between the facility and "Urban Plates". Representatives and Center Director walked past the roundabout and proceeded to Runway Road and Town Center Drive. At the crosswalk, Representatives walked south to Town Center Drive and West Millennium Drive and crossed the street and headed towards "The Lawn" which is a public outdoor area approximately 800 feet away from the facility. According to the Center Director, the children will only use part of the grass area closest to the West Millennium Drive as well as the concrete shaded patio area which includes about 11 outdoor tables with sitting chairs at each table. The children will not use the back end of the public outdoor area that includes a large water pond area with no fencing and play structure area for children ages 5-12 years old. Center Director stated there is not public restrooms at "The Lawn". Therefore, the facility is also requesting to use a public restroom area across the street from "The Lawn". Department Representatives walked across the street heading north towards "SOL Mexican Cocina" and headed west on West Millennium Drive. Department Representatives were not able to view the outdoor public bathrooms as they were locked and Center Director did not have a key to get in. Center Director agreed to provide the Department with a facility sketch of the route the children will take to "The Lawn". Based on measurements taken of "The Lawn" the total outdoor square footage allows 28 children.
