25 | Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Veronica Martinez-Garza and Bardo Baluyot conducted an unannounced Required Annual site Inspection. Upon arrival LPAs conducted a COVID risk self-assessment and met with Director Sara Shelton who guided LPAs on a tour of the facility. This program consists of 9 classrooms but only 7 classrooms are being used currently due to low enrollment. The facility also has a toddler component but according to Director there are currently no toddlers enrolled at this time. The early child care program ECD operates separately but within the school that serves children up to the 8th grade. Per Director, the preschool children do not interact with the school age children.
The following classrooms were inspected today: Room 123, Room 124, Room 125, Room 126, Room 129, Room 131, and Room 132.
Students have access to the classrooms, restrooms (located in the classrooms), and outdoor play area. Pre-pandemic, students were signed in at their assigned classroom by their parents. Per Director, currently all children are picked up and dropped off using side gate on Las Palmas Ave. and are signed in/out by staff after verifying the authorized pick up person. Furniture and equipment are safe and in good repair. There is telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation available at the facility. The nurses office and restroom has been designated for the use of ill children.
Drinking water is available indoors and outdoors via personal water bottle which are refilled by staff upon request using a filtered water system. Restrooms used were inspected for availability, good repair, water temperature, toilet paper, area safety and sanitation.
The preschool program does not have an assigned kitchen (there is a kitchen on the campus for the older children). The facility provides AM and PM snacks and all lunches are provided by parents. Facility also offers optional food services from a contracted food company. Containers used to discard food have tight fitting lid at this time. Poisons are locked in a cabinet. Cleaning compounds and sharp items are inaccessible to children. |
