heating (there is central heating and air-conditioning), lighting (there is overhead lighting and natural lighting comes through the windows and when the classroom doors which lead outside are left open) and ventilation were evaluated. Storage for children's belongings were reviewed. Ill children will remain in the office. Availability of drinking water was reviewed. There are two stand-alone water dispensers outside of each classroom in the area in front of the kitchen. Individual drinking cups were observed. Age-appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability, working condition, running water, soap, toilet paper, individual paper towels, area safety and sanitation. There is a restroom in room 01 for use by staff and/or the public.
Outdoor equipment was inspected for safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. There are two separate playgrounds, one in the front of the Center and one which curves from the east and south side of the Center. On the front playground, there is blacktop and grass; on the other playground, there is cement, grass, and foam rubber cushioning. Staff take out a portable water dispenser and individual drinking cups for drinking water when children are on the playground. The play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water.
Food Service: All food is provided by Plaza De La Raza Child Development Services. A review of cleaning and food supply storage areas was made. There is a full-size refrigerator in the kitchen area. The Center provides breakfast, lunch, and P.M. snack. Breakfast is served at 8:30 A.M., lunch is served at 11:00; and P.M. snack is served at 1:30. All food is served and eaten in the respective classrooms.
Health-Related Services: There is one First Aid Kit and one Emergency backpack in each classroom. A review of medication policy, including administering, labeling, storage, and records was made. There are currently three children who are on medication.
This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records.
