32 | Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated. Children have their own cubby to store their belongings. Children in Rooms 1101 and 1109 will nap at the facility. Linen will be washed by a laundry service provided through the Long Beach Unified School District. Napping equipment (cots) were observed in a separate storage area in Rooms 1101 and 1109. Per Program Administrator, the isolation area is located in the nurse's office. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability and good repair in all restrooms. LPAs observed that the facility does have a carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector, and a serviced fire extinguisher.
Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, and other items that are dangerous to children, will be inaccessible to children and will be stored in a high locked cabinet. Program Administrator states that there are no poisons stored at the facility.
This program will provide breakfast to the children in Room 1103 (AM session) and children in Rooms 1101 and 1109 will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and snack. A monthly menu was available during the inspection. Program Administrator posted the menu during the inspection.
This facility does not have a kitchen to store and prepare food. A truck delivery service is in place and all meals and snacks will be delivered daily. The food service is provided by the Long Beach Unified School District. The food delivery service will place all delivered food in the staff lounge and Head Start staff will deliver the meals in a cart to each classroom. LPAs inspected the staff lounge and observed that it was clean and free of litter, rubbish, rodents, and/or any other vermin. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids. The facility in general was observed to be free of flies, other insects and rodents.
Outdoor playground equipment is in a safe condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. LPAs advised the Program Administrator that the children need to be within the direct care and supervision, including visual supervision of the teachers and Head Start staff at all times. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. All areas around or under high climbing equipment, swings, and similar equipment are cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. There is adequate shade in the play yard. Availability of outdoor drinking water was observed.
There are no bodies of water on the premises.
