On 10/15/2020, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Ariel Cazares met with Director Michelle Gallo of the licensed facility via FaceTime.

The purpose of the visit was to provide technical assistance to the facility that is currently operating under a waiver to allow care to school-age children under the preschool license. This waiver will be used as a temporary school-age component due to the spread of COVID-19 in Southern/Northern California.

At 10:02am, Director Michelle Gallo guided LPA tour of the facility. The child care operates Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm. There is a waiver in place that allows the child care to operate a school age component under the preschool license, for children TK to 8th grade, with a capacity of 200 for both the preschool and school-age components. If the facility should need to increase capacity beyond 200 children or any changes to the conditions of the waiver occur, Glendora Unified School District Preschool, shall notify the Monterey Park Child Care Regional Office.

The temporary school-age component consists of an addition of 6 classrooms: 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 18, 20, 26, and Multipurpose Room. Check-in will take place at the entrance of the facility. If children become ill during the course of the day, they will be placed in the isolation area; office for preschool, room 6 for school age. The school-age component has separate restrooms and outdoors space from the preschool areas. There were 42 school-age children present during the inspection.

LPA toured the preschool with toddler option areas. This component consists of 5 classrooms: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. There were 19 preschool and 2 toddler children present during this inspection.

The ratios kept for the school-age component are 2 staff to 10 children. The equipment used by school-age children is age appropriate. School-age children do not nap, but there is a rest period offered to the younger school-age children. There are 4 restrooms with a total of 10 sinks and 8 toilets. Drinking water is available via water jug and they refill their personal water bottles.

LPA was guided through the outdoor space designated for school-age children, which is separate from the preschool playground. Drinking water is available in form of personal water bottles and water jug is available for outdoors. Children practice social distancing outdoors and per director the play structures are used and cleaned after each group of children. Each group waits 10 minutes between groups prior to going outside. This time is used for disinfecting the play area.

To further ensure health and safety of the children in care, Community Care Licensing will provide on-going Technical Assistance (TA) to Glendora Unified School District Preschool. LPA advised director to stay updated with the Provider Information Notices (PINs) on the department website www.ccld.ca.gov as well as www.covid19.ca.gov for COVID-19 related information.

An exit interview was conducted with Director Michell Gallo. A copy of this report will be sent via email with an attached read receipt as proof of receipt. LPA request report be signed and a copy returned to the Regional Office.
