25 | On 09/21/2023 at 1:25 PM an unannounced Required – 1 Year Inspection was conducted by Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Katrina Chicote. Licensing staff announced purpose of visit and met with Ernestine Lara, Principal, who granted entry to facility and provided tour of the facility both indoors and outdoors. Facility is currently licensed for a capacity of 175, per Principal they currently have 80 preschoolers enrolled. The program currently operates two programs General Ed Monday thru Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM and part time Collaborative Program Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. LPA observed required licensing postings at facility reception area and posted on a board by each classroom.
At the initial start of the site visit, there is a total census of 48 preschoolers and a total census of 19 staff members present. The facility is made up of seven classrooms, per Principal they are currently only utilizing five of them (RMs 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6) and RMs 3 and 7 are closed at this time. LPA observed RMs 3 an 7 to be vacant with no children or staff at time of inspection. Per Principal, Collaborative Program are in RMs 4 & 5. LPA arrived during facilities nap time and observed preschoolers napping in each classroom using standard blue cots that are laid out without blocking entry ways or access to exits and entrances.
Beginning at 1:30 PM, furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair in each classroom. LPA observed surface of classrooms to be safe and clean, and child size tables and chairs available for children well maintained. LPA observed learning stations for dramatic play, math, and science with toys well maintained free of loose and sharp parts and a library/cozy area available for quiet play. Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated. There were cubbies observed as storage for children's belongings. Per Principal, linens are provided by the facility and washed weekly by laundry service. Availability of drinking water was reviewed. LPA observed water fountains available for children as well as personal water bottles. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability, good repair, water temperature, toilet paper, area safety and sanitation. LPA observed each classroom to have bathroom available through their classroom and additional facilities outside of classroom.
