Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Randy Derraco conducted an unannounced required one year inspection on 09/20/22 at 1:45 pm. LPA met with Giselle Briones, Program Coordinator, who guided analyst on a tour of the facility. This is a School-Age program which consists of 3 classrooms. Facility operation hours are Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM; then 2:00PM to 6:00PM. The facility provides transportation services to and from school. LPA observed Director, Angelica Cortez, arriving at the facility at 2:45 PM and joined the tour.

All areas identified on this report were inspected. Upon arrival, there were four staff present and no children in care. Per Director, each classroom is named and separated by age. Day care classroom cares for children in Kindergarten to First Grade. Center classroom cares for children in Second Grade to Third Grade. Red classroom cares for children in Fourth Grade and up.

The following was observed during the tour of the facility:

Children's roster was reviewed and is current. Sign in and out sheets were reviewed to ensure that the person who signs the child in and out uses their full legal signature and records the time of the day. Disaster drill log was available, last drill was conducted on 09/15/22. LPA observed required licensing documents posted on bulletin board in the Center classroom

Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. LPA observed material and equipment are free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated. Children have their own cubby to store their belongings. Per Director, the isolation area is located in the office. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability and good repair in all restrooms. Bathrooms were observed to be gender specific and they provide individual privacy for children. General sanitation was observed. (page 1 of 3)

Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children. According to the Director, medication is only administered to a child when accompanied with a doctor's note. Medication is stored in the child's classroom in a locked cabinet where it is inaccessible to children in care. Director states that there are no poisons stored at the facility and understands that storage areas for poisons must be locked, not just inaccessible. Facility has one or more functioning carbon monoxide detectors that meet statutory requirements. First Aid supplies were observed in the classroom.

Menus were reviewed to ensure that they are being posted at least one week in advance and visible to an authorized representative. The facility provides Supper and a PM snack. LPA observed that water is readily available indoors via a water dispenser. Food is provided by a third party vendor that pre-packages meals for children in care. Food is distributed by teachers to children in care upon arrival.

LPA observed that outdoor space is physically separate from all other components. Outdoor play equipment was observed to be in good condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. Outdoor activity space surface is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. Areas around and/or under climbing equipment, swings and slides have cushioning material to absorb a fall. The outdoor area has adequate shade. LPA observed that water is readily available outdoors via a water cooler that is pushed on on a mobile cart. Bodies of water was observed and made inaccessible by a steel fence approximately 6 feet high. LPA observed a pad lock on the gate leading to the pool.

All individuals present have obtained a criminal record clearance or criminal record exemption. There is at least one person trained in CPR and Pediatric First Aid present during this inspection. Staff’s Records were reviewed and are complete.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.
