32 | Director states there are no weapons, firearms, or bodies of water on the premises. At 12:00pm, LPAs entered the kitchen area. All food preparation areas and food storage areas are kept clean and are free of litter, rubbish and rodents and/or any other vermin. Snacks were reviewed for availability, quantity and appropriateness to children in care. This facility provides AM and PM snack. Children provide their own lunch from home. A fire extinguisher was observed in the kitchen. The valve on the required 2A 10BC fire extinguisher indicates fully charged and was serviced on 03/23/2021, as indicated on service tag. Per State Fire Marshall standards, fire extinguishers shall be serviced annually. The children's bathroom is at the back of the building, before entering the backyard area. The bathroom was observed to be clean and safe and well stocked with supplies. All toilets, hand washing, and bathing facilities are safe, sanitary and are operating properly.
OUTDOORS: At 12:07pm, LPAs reviewed the outdoor play area. Outdoor playground equipment is in safe condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. All areas around or under high climbing equipment, swings, slides, and similar equipment are cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. The outside play area is a large yard. There is a grass area, basketball court on concrete, a play house, and dirt road used as a bike path for children. There is also a sand area for the children. Per director, the opening teacher inspects the sand area every morning for any animal feces or dangers.
FACILITY RECORDS: Sign in and out sheets were reviewed to ensure that the person who signs the child in and out uses their full legal signature and records the time of the day. Staff files were unable to be reviewed at the time of inspection. Staff files are held at Child Educational Center Human Resources office at the Mountain St. Office in Pasadena, where all staff files are stored for Child Educational Center licensed facilities. An inspection to review staff files at the Mountain St. location will be conducted at a later date. A random sample of Children’s Records were reviewed to ensure that they are complete.
INCIDENTAL MEDICAL SERVICES:
Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226.
