On 11/6/2020, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Ariel Cazares met with Director Parima Madan of the licensed facility via Zoom.

The purpose of the visit was to provide technical assistance to the facility that has been granted a waiver to temporarily operate a toddler and school-age component under the preschool license. This waiver will be used to due to the spread of COVID-19 in Southern/Northern California.

The child care will be operated Monday through Friday, 8:15am to 5pm and under the waiver the facility will serve children starting from 18 months until school-age, 1st through 3rd grade. The facility will operate within their capacity and did not request to increase the capacity licensed for. Should the facility need to increase capacity beyond what has been approved in the waiver or any changes to the conditions of the waiver occur, Enchanted Castle San Marino Montessori shall notify the Monterey Park Child Care Regional Office.

At 11:30 am LPA was guided through the facility. LPA observed the entrance where a table is set up for checking in and out of the children. Temperatures are checked prior to acceptance into the facility. Parents are asked to take temperatures at home as well prior to arriving to the facility.

LPA was toured through the preschool classrooms and those designated for the toddler and for the school-age children under the waiver. The following was observed in each classroom:

Room #3: 12 children, 1 staff. This is the designated toddler room where there is a changing table and sinks inside the room. There is toddler restroom available as well.
Room #4: 8 children, 1 staff.
Room #5: 5 children, 1 staff. This is the designated school-age room. There is a separate, private restroom for school-age children.

At 11:43 LPA was toured through the outdoor playgrounds. There were two groups returning to their classrooms. Group 1 that had 10 children and 1 staff. Group 2 had 9 children and 1 staff. The groups were utilizing separate yards. The playgrounds are used by different groups at different times. Each yard is cleaned and disinfected between groups. Water is available in form of cups and water pitcher, but children can take their personal water bottles outside with them.

If child/ren become ill during the course of the day, they will be placed in the isolation area in one of the rooms in the office. A mat is made available for rest. There is a separate restroom designated for ill children. Snacks are provided by the facility and served by the teachers. Children bring their own lunch from home.

To further ensure health and safety of the children in care, Community Care Licensing will provide on-going Technical Assistance (TA) to Enchanted Castle. LPA advised director to stay updated with the Provider Information Notices (PINs) on the department website www.ccld.ca.gov as well as www.covid19.ca.gov for COVID-19 related information.

An exit interview was conducted with Director Parima Madan. A copy of this report will be sent via email with an attached read receipt as proof of receipt. LPA request report be signed and a copy returned to the Regional Office.
