13 | On April 8, 2021, at 12:05 p.m., an unannounced follow up Complaint Tele Inspection was made on this day by Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Alanna Gontarek to the licensed day care facility for the purpose of delivering complaint investigation findings regarding above allegation. Due to COVID-19 preventative measures, visit was conducted via Facetime application video. LPA met with Director Koryn Parker to discuss the above allegation. At the time of arrival LPA observed 49 children and 5 staff.
Investigation was completed by LPA Alanna Gontarek. LPA conducted interviews with complainant, staff, and other parties involved. Per complainant, “LLEA did not offer my child an opt out/accommodation to be free from participating in a religious/spiritual activity called Yoga.”
Per staff interviews, staff stated that after the concern was brought to the school’s attention, the children were given the option to sit out, read a book, or Yoga was discontinued as an activity in the classroom. Per staff corroborating statements, Yoga was used for a time of physical activity, including body movement, balancing, stretching, and coordination for approximately 10 minutes on days listed in the Teacher Lesson Plans and Weekly Newsletters.
