32 | Playground equipment is in safe condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. During today’s inspection, LPA observed a cinder block with a large block of wood, approximately a foot in length and 6-8" wide and about 6" deep, is located on the back side of play yard.
The fencing is chain link. The back fencing is displaying fraying on the top, there are two strands of barb wire on the top, however, one strand is loose and is hanging down on the other side of fence, on the public side.
There are large wood rounds/stumps accessible to children. Per site supervisor, the church pastor allowed the wood and barb wire to be placed on the children’s outside play area. Per site supervisor, children do not play in that area. LPA reminded staff that the play yard is to remain the same as when first licensed. Site Supervisor stated that the pastor has already been contacted and the process to remove the cut wood is in place. Program manager mentioned installing a fence on the children’s play yard, in front of the back fencing. LPA reminded her that the new fencing will change the outside square footage, which could impact over all capacity. LPA reviewed the area that the church pastor has stored items. LPA recommended a fence to divide the children’s outside play yard and items the church pastor wishes to store. The new fencing can be placed from the back of the church's storage room to the back fencing. The new fencing will allow church the outside storage and to include the church trash cans, and keep the area inaccessible to day care children. The children are not outside playing due to the cold and rain.
There are three sheds that the facility utilizes. One shed show signs of wood rot on the bottom siding of shed. Program director was present during today's inspection. Site Supervisor and Program Director called maintenance to remove the barb wire and to inspect the chain link fencing.
All toilets and hand washing facilities are in safe and sanitary operating condition. Floors in the facility are clean and safe. All kitchen, food preparation and storage areas are clean, free of litter/rubbish and free of rodents/vermin. All food is protected against contamination and any contaminated food is discarded immediately. Solid waste storage containers have tight-fitting covers and are in good repair. Drinking water is available both indoors and outdoors. Children bring their own water bottles and use the water dispensers in the classroom to refill their water bottles. Areas around high climbing equipment, swings and slides have cushioning material to absorb falls. The facility is free of flies, insects and rodents. Facility has one or more functioning carbon monoxide detectors that meet statutory requirements.
