Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Van met with Director of Operation, Frances Corcoran, for an unannounced case management. The purpose of the inspection was to process a request for increase of capacity. The program is currently licensed for 129 children with a toddler component. The facility requests to increase to 134 children by adding a second toddler’s class room.

The department received an approved fire clearance for 134 children on June 21, 2019. The facility is in summer recess and does not have any children today. Facility has several schedules during the school year. Full time Preschool are from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, and the half time are from 8:30 AM - 11:25 AM, Monday - Friday. The toddlers schedule is Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 2:45 PM full time, and Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 11:20 AM half-time. LPA inspected the entire facility, indoor, outdoor and all classrooms were measured and calculated to determine the maximum capacity.

Indoor: Currently there are 5 classrooms. The facility is adding another toddler classroom (Song Sparrow); The existing classrooms are Mourning Dove, Quail, Great Blue Heron, Pelican, and Sand Piper. The new toddler classroom Song Sparrow measures 926 square feet allowing for a total of 26 children. All classrooms measure 7023 square feet allowing for a total capacity of 201 children. There is bathroom in each classroom and also sinks for children's usage. Total capacity for toilets and sinks is 165 for toilets and 150 for sinks.

Outdoor: There are two outdoor spaces for children. The main outdoor space and the toddler’s outdoor space. The total outdoor play area for the preschool measures a total of 10,251 square feet allowing for 137 children. The outdoor area appears to be clean and there is sufficient cushioning underneath the climbing structures.

The capacity increase is recommended upon approval from supervisor.

An updated license will be mailed from the regional office.

A copy of this report was reviewed and provided to Frances Corcoran. Notice of site visit was observed to be posted and shall remain posted for 30 days.
