25 | On 11/1/23, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Joseph Pacheco conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection and met with Director, Payia Chambers. LPA explained the reason for the inspection and a tour of the center was conducted both inside and outside. The licensee is requesting an increase of capacity from 62 to 80 preschool children by adding the Giraffe’s classroom. This program currently operates year round from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM and currently utilizes five classrooms: Teddy Bear, Llama, Lady Bug, Sunshine and Bumble Bee. Facility provides breakfast, lunch and snacks. Food is prepared on-site. Ill children and staff will utilize the staff bathroom. Ill children will be isolated in the director’s office until picked up by their parent or legal guardian. Cleaning supplies are kept in inaccessible areas in all classrooms.
All classrooms appeared to be clean and free of toxins. LPA observed that the furniture and equipment in the classrooms appeared to be safe and in good condition. LPA observed that the center has a working carbon monoxide detector installed. LPA observed that there are plenty of tables, chairs, cubbies, sleeping cots/mats. Classroom items and toys appeared to be age appropriate.
Room measurements in all classrooms were taken and reviewed with Director. The total inside preschool area measured to an approximate 5,449 square feet which will accommodate the requested capacity of 80 preschool children. There is a total of 6 toilets, and 16 sinks/hand washing fixtures which will accommodate 80 preschool children. Facility utilizes drinking fountains in each classroom and in the outside activity area to provide water during indoor and outdoor activities. The outside square footage measured to an approximate 16,123 square feet which will accommodate the requested capacity of 80 preschool children. Outside toys and equipment appeared to be age appropriate. This facility also has an infant and school age component. Preschool age children and school age children utilize the same outdoor space at separate times.
Adequate shade is available in the outdoor activity area. Licensee is utilizing mature trees for shade. Facility is utilizing wood chips to provide adequate cushioning for high climbing equipment. LPA reminded Director to make sure they have visual supervision of children at all times.
A fire clearance for 80 preschool children was received and granted by the Atwater Fire Department on 9/15/23.
