Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs), Marilou Monico and Andrea Cortez, met with Director of Early Learning, Kristina Torres, for a Case Management inspection in response to licensee's request to reactivate the license and measure space available for the children. Classroom 23 was originally a portable. Portable 23 was removed and replaced with permanent constructed building. Classroom 24 was renovated and Portable 25 remains unchanged.

LPAs toured the facility both indoor and outdoor as well as measured the classrooms and playground.

Indoor measurements are as follows:
Room 23: 39.00 x 35.00 = 1,365 minus 147.01 (encumbered space) = 1,217.99
Room 24: 39.17 x 23.33 = 913.84 minus 234.77 (encumbered space) = 679.07
Room 25: 39.08 x 23.17 = 905.48 minus 123.44 (encumbered space) = 782.04
Total preschool indoor space = 2,679.1 divided by 35 sq. ft. = 76 children

There are eight (8) sinks and four (4) toilets available for the children. There is a staff bathroom located in Room 26. Sick children will use the staff bathroom if needed and will be accompanied by a staff. Isolation of sick children will be in a room adjacent to the staff bathroom and isolation equipment will be provided. LPA observed fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguishers and functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Drinking water will be provided to the children via water dispenser and individual water bottles. LPAs observed toys and equipment that is age appropriate and safe for day care children.

The facility offers a half day and full day program and serves morning/afternoon snacks and lunch to the children enrolled. The food is provided through the Castroville Elementary School cafeteria. LPA observed trash cans with tight fitting covers for the disposal of solid wastes.

Outdoor measurements are as follows:
Playground: 61.50 x 40.00 = 2,460
42.50 x 46.00 = 1,955
61.50 x 57.00 = 3,505.50
Total outdoor space = 7,920.50 (2,460 +1,955+3,505.50) minus 101.06 (encumbered space) = 7,819.44 divided by 75 sq. ft. = 104 children

The playground is surrounded with at least four feet tall fence. Shade is provided by umbrellas. There is a climbing structure in the yard with rubber padding as resilient material under and around the structure. No bodies of water were observed. Drinking water outdoor is via individual water bottles.

LPA advised Kristina that since the facility only has four (4) toilets available for the children, the maximum number of children the facility can request is up to 60 children. Kristina submitted an Updated Application for a Child Care Center License reflecting the capacity of 60 children during the inspection.

Exit interview conducted and the report was reviewed with Director of Early Learning, Kristina Torres.

A licensed for 60 children will be granted pending manager review/approval and submission of the following items:
1) Approved fire clearance for 60 children and all classrooms including Rooms 23 through 26 have been inspected.
2) Updated facility sketch including all classrooms, isolation area, bathrooms, and sinks.
