Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Glenn Ouye arrived and met with Darlene Howell to conduct a capacity increase inspection for NCOE - Shearer Preschool. The facility is currently licensed for 22 preschool children for the original Classroom 1 and is is seeking to increase the capacity to 38 preschool children (16 additional children). The facility now has a second classroom, Classroom 2. The classrooms are side by side. The operating hours are 8:30am to 11:30am and 12:30pm to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.

The fire inspection was performed on 8/13/19 and approved for 38 children. The interior space for Classroom 2 was measured by LPA and meets the required square footage to accommodate the additional 16 children and a total capacity of 38 children. The outdoor play area was also measured and is sufficient to meet the required square footage for 38 children. The outdoor play area has wood chips to provide fall cushioning. There is also sufficient shade over parts of the outdoor play area. The outdoor play area is also fully fenced with gates near both classrooms.

There are a total of four children's toilets and four hand washing sinks. Each classroom has has two toilets and two hand washing sinks. Each classroom has an indoor drinking fountain. Water coolers are provided for the children for the outdoor play area. Each room has a functioning carbon monoxide detector, hard wired smoke detectors and fire extinguishers rated at a minimum of 2A-10-BC. Each classroom also has a first aid kits. Each classroom will have a sign in & out book and the required postings. Items which could pose a danger to children (such as cleaning compounds or medications) are made inaccessible to children. There is ample age appropriate toys and indoor activity area for the children.

The capacity increase to 38 children is approved as of August 14, 2019.
Notice of Site Visit shall be posted for 30 days from today's visit.

There were no Title 22 deficiencies cited during today's inspection.
