An allegation: Child gets hit on the hands when child does something wrong
Complainant Party (C/P) stated a child disclosed to C/P not wanting to go back to day care because child gets hit on the hands when child does something wrong. C/P stated not sure if child gets hit anywhere else in the body. C/P stated has noticed from past incidents child has minor injuries. C/P stated asked licensee what had happened with injury and Licensee stated child was injured during play time.
During interview conducted with Licensee on 03/16/2021 via facetime, Licensee stated she works with assistant staff#2 and children are in living room or outside in backyard. Licensee stated does not care for many children. Licensee stated maintains supervision by walking around. Licensee is aware of personal rights and usually redirects children. Licensee stated if an incident occurs at facility, she informs parents immediately, daily at pick up time. Licensee stated discipline policy used at day care is normally to redirect children, separates children and offers different toys if a toy is the issue and distracts children by playing with them. Licensee disclosed has never hit children nor her staff. Licensee disclosed would never hit a child and would not allow staff or anyone to hit a child. Licensee stated has children, grandchildren and would never hit them.
During the investigation, LPA interviewed 1 staff separately. Staff disclosed discipline policy used at day care is to see eye to eye with child, redirect, move child aside so child can have a couple of seconds to themselves. If child is upset Staff brings child next to them and lets them calm down. Staff disclosed do not have assigned time out area, sometimes staff just grab a chair and sit child to calm down for a few minutes. Staff disclosed has never done anything to Child#1, sat child down a few times for time out. Staff disclosed has never hit children, however, has held child’s hand and walked child to time out area. Staff disclosed has never grabbed or hit a child in rough manner.
During interviews conducted 2 of 3 parents via phone. A parent interviewed stated Licensee and staff are good and notify immediately if an incident occurs via phone, text or at pick up time. Two Parents disclosed Licensee reports injury and incident immediately. A parent disclosed Licensee is very open regarding communication and child likes facility. Two parents disclosed have no concerns or issues with facility.
