On 02/26/2020, our office received a complaint and complainant reported that a child was being bullied by children in the day-care and facility staff failed to address bullying occurring between children in care. Complainant also stated facility staff yelled at children in care and facility staff failed to prevent the spread of lice.
On 06/11/2020, due to COVID 19 pandemic, LPA Nguyen conducted a telephone interview with subject child. Subject child stated some kids at school punched subject child and subject child did not remember who punched subject child. Subjected child also stated two friends made fun at subject child by saying “why you look so tired” and laughed at subject child. Subject child told the teachers about it and they just said “ok”. Subject child stated staff #1 yelled sometimes but did not remember what and who staff #1 yelled at. Subject child also disclosed that the school called parents to pick up children with head lice and children can come back to school when the children do not have head lice no more.
On the complaint investigation dated 03/03/2020, LPA Taylor interviewed the director and three staff members at the facility. On 06/10/2020, due to COVID 19 pandemic, LPA Nguyen conducted a telephone interview with the director and two staff members to obtain additional information. No disclosures were made by staff to LPA Taylor and LPA Nguyen. All interviewed staff members stated the children are getting along and nice to each other; thus, staff members did not have to address bullying between children in care. Interviewed staff members stated they did not see any staff member yells at children in care. No staff member disclosed witnessing any day care child hit another child in care or failing to prevent the spread of lice. All interviewed staff confirmed that they followed school procedure on responding to head lice incidents such as notifying parents, cleaning the whole facility, and children will only return to school after being treated for head lice.
On 03/03/2020, LPA Taylor interviewed seven children at the day-care facility. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, LPA Nguyen conducted a telephone interview with four children on 06/10/2020 and interviewed an additional child on 6/11/2020 to obtain additional information. No disclosures were made by children to LPA Taylor and LPA Nguyen. All interviewed children denied seeing other children hitting or being mean to one another. All interviewed children stated they did not observe or witness any facility staff members yell at children in care. All interviewed children stated they did not know about head lice and did not see anyone with head lice at the facility. Page 2 (continue) |
