25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jeremey McClain met with Director Barbara Warner for an unannounced annual random inspection. LPA observed 39 preschool children supervised by seven staff members in four separate classrooms. Facility hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM.
LPA toured all activity and classroom spaces, restrooms, food service, and outdoor play areas. Medications are appropriately stored and inaccessible to children. Toxic and hazardous items are inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment are in good condition. Playground equipment and surfaces are free of loose or sharp parts. The areas around or under climbing equipment are cushioned with bark to absorb the fall. Toileting facilities are in safe, sanitary and operating condition. The floors appeared clean throughout the facility. The food preparation space is free of litter and all food was protected against contamination. Storage containers with solid waste have tight-fitting covers. The facility provides a snack and children provide their own lunches. Snack Menus were posted, and drinking water was readily available to children both indoors and outdoors. LPA observed full legal signatures while reviewing the sign in and sign out sheet.
Staff and children's records were reviewed. Each child's file contained an emergency card and a medical assessment. At least one staff member present today has current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification which expires:09/2021. All staff currently employed with the facility have: a criminal record clearance, a health screening report, AB1207 Mandated Reporter Training, and documentation of their educational background, training and/or experience. LPA observed a functional carbon monoxide detectors.
Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. The facility is currently providing IMS. LPA spoke to the Director about developing a plan of operation. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.
