32 | CONTINUED FROM LIC 9099:
Staff handled day care child in a rough manner - It is alleged that staff can at times be a little rough when dealing with challenging children. When a child acts out, or is aggressive towards friends and/or staff, or appears to harm a friend, staff will act swiftly to prevent a child from doing so. There is no grabbing or yelling at the child however, the staff will either hold out their arm or use themselves to block the child from hurting themselves and/or their friends. If a child appears to be throwing an object whether sand on the playground, toys or items in the classroom staff are quick to block the child's arm from doing so. The child is then talked to and will be shadowed throughout the day whether it be sitting next to the teacher in class or playing next to the teacher outside.
Day care child sustained injuries while in care - It is alleged that a child had received mutiple scratches on the childs arms, legs and face. When asked by the parent, the child states they received the scratches while playing at school. Interviews conducted disclosed that the child had either received scratches at the facility or the child arrived at the facility with the scratches. File reviews conducted also disclosed various "ouch" reports indicating if a child received scratches at the facility.
Based on interviews and record review, the allegations that staff did not prevent day care child from engaging in inappropriate behaviors, staff handled day care child in a rough manner, and Day care child sustained injuries while in care may have occurred, however, there is not a preponderance of evidence to support or dismiss the allegations. Therefore, the allegations are unsubstantiated at this time.
An exit interview was conducted with Director, Desi Andrews and Appeal Rights were explained. A copy of this report as well as a copy of the Appeal Rights were provided to Director, Desi Andrews on this date and time.
