25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Karyn Guerra met with Director, Patricia Newton, for the purpose of an unannounced annual random inspection. Census consisted of 2 infant children supervised by 1 fully qualified staff. Facility hours of operation are 6:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
LPA toured the building including all activity and classroom spaces, restrooms, food service, and outdoor play areas. Medications were properly stored in the kitchen area of the preschool facility. Director stated there are no poisons on the premises. Toxic and hazardous items are inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment are in good condition. Playground equipment and surfaces are free of loose or sharp parts. Infant changing tables have a padded surface that is washable and at least one-inch-thick, and the changing tables have raised sides. The floors appeared clean throughout the infant facility. The food preparation space is free of litter and all food was protected against contamination. Storage containers with solid waste have tight-fitting covers. No infant bottles were observed during today's inspection. LPA observed a reminder on refrigerator door to label and date bottles with child's name. Menus were posted and drinking water was readily available to children both indoors and outdoors via sippy cups. LPA observed full legal signatures while reviewing the sign in and sign out binder.
Staff and children's records were reviewed. Each child's file contained an emergency card, a medical assessment, and Infant Needs and Services Plan. Needs and Services plans were also readily available in the classroom. Director was reminded to update them quarterly. At least one staff member present today has current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (exp. 01/2021). All staff currently employed with the facility have a criminal record clearance, health screening report, and documentation of the educational background, training, and/or experience.
