13 | On Thursday, August 20, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Stephanie Piring met with Facility Representative, (Director) Gloria Rowe-Johnson, for the purpose of an unannounced complaint investigation to deliver findings. During todays visit, LPA observed 24 napping preschool age children being supervised by 2 staff in the 2s & 3s class and 17 napping preschool age children being supervised by 1 staff in the 4s class.
It was alleged that staff force daycare children to nap, and that the facility is not adequately staffed. Throughout the course of the investigation, LPA conducted interviews, reviewed relevant documents, and made observations. Interviews with staff and Authorized Representatives, revealed that children that don’t want to nap or have a hard time napping, are offered quiet activities to do on their mat such as reading a book and completing puzzles. Authorized representatives did not feel their children were forced to nap and were satisfied with the alternative options given to their children during nap time. LPA observed nap time in the preschool classrooms, and observed children with books, dinosaurs, and puzzles next to their mat. LPA also observed a child completing an art project on their mat. LPA observed adequate staffing in all classrooms during various visits. Interviews with staff and Authorized Representatives did not reveal instances where the facility was not adequately staffed.
