On December 13, 2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Calloway met with Facility Director for the purpose of an Annual/Random inspection. LPA observed 37 children and 6 staff present during this inspection. The facility operates from 6:00 am to 6:00 PM.
Physical Plant: The preschool consists of 4 classrooms. Furniture, toys, books, and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. All rooms observed to be clean and safe. Telephone service was verified. Heating, lighting, and ventilation are adequate. There are cubbies with children's names on them for their belongings in each classroom. LPA observed age-appropriate toys and materials. Drinking water is available inside the classrooms in the form of water pitchers and disposable cups. LPA observed enough mats available for napping children. The bedding is stored separately and sent home with parents for washing on Fridays. Mats are cleaned at the end of each week. Facility has a surveillance system on the premises. Fire extinguisher, fire alarm pull, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector were observed to be operable condition. LPA inspected and observed the 3 bathrooms to be clean, functioning properly and age appropriate. The 2- & 3-year-old class has a bathroom with 2 toilets & 2 sinks between the classrooms, 3- & 4-year-old class bathroom has 2 toilets & 2 sinks, and the Pre-K class bathroom has 1 toilet and 1 sink.

LPA observed them all to be clean with soap, toilet paper and paper towels readily available in each. Kitchen observed with refrigerator, microwave, and sink. Knives are kept inaccessible in the freezer. The facility provides morning and afternoon snack. Parent/guardians are to provide lunches, which are stored in the kitchen beside the refrigerator on shelves. Weekly menus are posted in the kitchen. LPA observed allergy list (kitchen) posted and an appropriate amount of food and snacks. The chemicals are kept separate from the food, in kitchen cabinet (safety latch). Unused outlets were covered.
Outside: Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness and fencing all around. LPA observed small and large (anchored) play structures with sand underneath and a grass area for active play. There is also a concrete path for tricycles. The area was observed to be free of debris. There is an area for shade and rest. Drinking water is available in the form of a drinking fountain. There are no bodies of water on the premises. There are 2 locked sheds for storage. AC unit was not covered. LPA recommended a mesh, breathable cover.
Other: Teacher/child ratios were observed. Fire/earthquake drills are current. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid was observed (Exp. 1/2025). Mandated Reporter training verified. Children and staff files were reviewed. Postings were current. Roster was not current. Children are inspected for illnesses as they arrive. There is a separate area for isolation and care of ill children in the director's office. A review of medication policy indicated that prescription medication is administered and only with parent's written permission. The director, assistant director or trained teacher administers medication and documents the dosage, date, and time onto a log. Medications are stored in a lockbox in the refrigerator. Medication is brought and taken home by the parent daily or retained securely, properly labeled, and stored in its original container.
