32 | Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. There are 3 separate gated playgrounds (1 for each component). The preschool playground is in the back of the center. There is a large play structure, securely anchored with rubber underneath for cushioning. During this investigation, a bee hive was discovered in the school age play area inside of a tree. Director states she will take measures to have the bee hive removed before allowing children to play outside. There is an area for shade and rest. Drinking water is available in the form of a drinking fountain. Play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water.
Children are inspected for illnesses as they arrive. A review of medication policy indicated that prescription medication is administered and only with parent's written permission. The director or lead teacher administers medication and documents the dosage, date and time onto a log. Medication is brought and taken home by the parent daily or retained in a lock box, properly labeled and stored in its original container. Medications are stored in the locked emergency cabinet cabinet closest to kitchen. There is a separate area for isolation and care of ill children in the director's office. A separate cot with fresh linens available for each ill child.
There is a clean, fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, oven, microwave and sink. The facility provides breakfast, lunch and snacks. Weekly menus are posted. Allergy lists were observed posted on the refrigerator. LPA observed an appropriate amount of food and snacks in the pantry. The chemicals are kept separate from the food key-locked above the washer/dryer.
Teacher/child ratios were observed. Fire/earthquake drills are current. Current children's roster is maintained.
