32 | Restrooms are cleaned, restocked with toiletries, and sanitized by on-site staff. Calming area is located in the far corner of the classroom. The isolation area is located in the office area with separate restrooms with age-appropriate sinks and toilets nearby.
Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers were observed and in operable condition. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are operating according to Fire Marshall standards. First Aid Kit shall be complete with the following supplies including tweezers, scissors, gauze, bandages, cleansing pad/solution, thermometer, and a first aid manual. Trash cans without tight lids were observed in the preschool building and temporary classroom, Room 19; the Lead Teacher placed the trash cans without tight lids in an area inaccessible to the children in care. This is a technical violation. Cleaning supplies, hazardous materials, and/or poisons are found to be out of the reach of children and stored in a separate location, inaccessible to children, while in the temporary Room 19. In the current preschool building, LPA observed there was cleaning supplies on the kitchen counter and a knife left in the sink that was used for food preparation in the morning for the breakfast meal; the Lead Teacher states that the preschool classroom is unavailable to the children in care during the repairs to the classroom and only the outdoor area is being used. There is no violation associated with the sharps or cleaning supplies as the children do not have access. The Lead Teacher was provided technical assistance with the policy on sharps and cleaning supplies.
Emergency Drills are conducted at least every six months and the last drills were conducted and documented on 8/25/2023 at 10:00am for the Fire Drill and the Emergency/Earthquake Drill. The fire extinguisher (2A10BC) is reading in green and meets the Fire Marshal Codes and Standards (last serviced 8/2/2023). Menus are posted at least a week in advanced, dated, and in sight of parents to review. Daily activity schedules are posted showing meal/snack times, and specific activities. Food allergies are noted and are posted in the kitchen on a red paper. There is outside food allowed and the center provides breakfast and a snack. When outside food is brought for individual children, it is stored in the refrigerator and properly labeled. When outside food is brought for the classroom, parents are notified beforehand and it must be store bought food.
